Benefits of a Guild Membership
In March, 1995, a group of Boulder psychotherapists joined together to respond to the managed mental health care crisis and promote the value of psychotherapy. Our mission has been to educate the public about the value of unmanaged psychotherapy, increase awareness that psychotherapy can be affordable, market our members' practices, and increase the size of the self-pay market.
Through the Guild Directory and referral line, we have established the Guild as Boulder's primary source of psychotherapy referral information. Clients, physicians, professionals, and community agencies tell us that they refer to our Directory more than nay other resource, including the Yellow Pages. The Boulder Psychotherapists' Guild has become a national model with three areas copying the Guild and dozens of other areas using the parts of the Guild model.
Membership in the Guild offers the following benefits:
- Your half-page advertisement and photo in the Guild Directory
- Distribution of the Directory (via DJM Distribution) to clients, physicians,
agencies, and professionals. Distribution in 2003 was over 6,000 copies.
- Advertisements of groups and workshops in the Group Therapy Newsletter
- Direct referrals from the live telephone referral servce and the Directory
- Regular advertisements of the Guild services and presentations in the Daily Camera
- Advertisements of the Guild and referral services in the Yellow Pages
- Advertisements by direct mail to physicians, agencies, schools, corporations, etc.
- Sponsorship of public presentations that provides personal explosure for therapists
- Development of articles in the local newspapters that promote mental health and the need to self-pay for quality services in the era of managed care
- Development of press releases and promotion of Guild members in local newspapers
- Affiliation with respected professionals who are working to prserve psychotherapy

Guild Members offer a 20% "no
administration" discount for outpatient individual, couples and family
therapy when you pay at the time of service, there is no insurance or
other paperwork, and you request the Guild discount when agreeing to
fees at the beginning of therapy.
